Hepatology
A liver transplant is a treatment option for patients whose liver is failing or who have certain advanced liver cancers. It is considered when medical treatment is no longer effective. Common causes include cirrhosis (alcoholic, viral hepatitis B/C), fatty liver-related liver failure, autoimmune liver disease, and some inherited liver conditions.

At NGLC, patients are evaluated and guided by specialists trained in high-volume transplant centers, ensuring safe referral and coordinated care throughout the process.
Patients with:
Persistent or recurrent ascites
Repeated jaundice or swelling
Hepatic encephalopathy (confusion due to liver failure)
Frequent hospital admissions for liver-related complications
Liver cancer that fits transplant criteria
Such patients should undergo early evaluation to determine timing of transplant.
We provide comprehensive pre-transplant evaluation, medical stabilization, management of liver complications, donor evaluation support, transplant counseling for patients and families, coordination with transplant centers, and long-term post-transplant follow-up care.
Donors may be:
- Living related donors (usually family members), or
- Deceased donors where available:
Donors undergo detailed medical, liver, and imaging tests to ensure donor safety and suitability.
Evaluation includes blood tests, imaging (Ultrasound/CT/MRI), endoscopy, heart and lung assessment, nutritional assessment, and psychological evaluation. This helps determine transplant readiness and optimal timing.
After transplant, patients require immunosuppressive medications, regular follow-ups, and a healthy lifestyle. Most patients can return to daily work and normal activities once recovery is achieved and liver function stabilizes.
